Recently, Masdar, a global leader in renewable energy and sustainable urban development, announced that CATL has been selected as the preferred supplier of battery energy storage systems for its UAE RTC (Round the Clock) project. The project is the world’s largest solar and battery energy storage project, with a total capacity of 19GWh of battery storage and 5.2GW of photovoltaic capacity, with a total investment of over $6 billion. Once completed, it will become the world’s first large-scale, round-the-clock power generation project, providing 1GW of clean energy 24 hours a day, setting a global benchmark for green energy development.
Abdulaziz Alobaidli, COO of Masdar, stated, "As Masdar’s largest and most impactful project to date, we want to partner with the best collaborators to ensure the project meets the highest standards."
As a global leader in energy storage solutions, CATL will supply its Tianneng battery storage system for this project. The system features high safety, long lifespan, and high integration, with enhanced protection levels and overall energy capacity, allowing it to withstand extreme weather and harsh environments. Additionally, with CATL’s latest integrated liquid cooling technology, the system's safety, reliability, and ease of commissioning are further improved.
Since its establishment in 2006, Masdar has been a key driver of the UAE’s vision for sustainable development. To date, Masdar has implemented projects in over 40 countries and plans to increase its total renewable energy capacity to 100GW by 2030, while also becoming a leader in the green hydrogen sector by the same year.
