Hithium Energy Storage and Samsung C&T signed a global cooperation agreement
According to a message from Hithium, on January 8, Hithium and Samsung C&T (Samsung Engineering & Construction) signed a global cooperation agreement in Xiamen. Seong Kon Kim, Vice President and Head of the Energy Division at Samsung C&T, and Yi Ziqi, Vice President and General Manager of the Global Solutions Center at Hithium, attended the signing ceremony.
Under the agreement, the two parties will establish a continuous and stable strategic partnership for the supply of energy storage batteries and system solutions, and they plan to collaborate on energy storage system projects with a total capacity of approximately 10GWh worldwide in the future.
Samsung C&T is a globally renowned integrated enterprise and one of the core companies of the Samsung Group. It is also a global leader in the energy industry as an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractor and developer. Samsung C&T is involved in infrastructure construction, energy, chemical, and mechanical trade, as well as oil, natural gas, and other natural resource investment and development.
Founded in 1938, Samsung C&T is also one of the Fortune Global 500 companies. Notably, it has been responsible for iconic landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the Petronas Towers in Malaysia, and the Taipei 101 tower.
It is worth mentioning that Samsung Group actually has a subsidiary specializing in the production of batteries and cells—Samsung SDI. Samsung SDI is a leading player in the global power battery market, ranking seventh in the global power battery usage among the top 10 companies from January to November 2024.
However, in terms of global energy storage battery shipments, Hithium is ranked higher.
The fact that Samsung C&T has recognized Hithium's energy storage batteries and system solutions may indicate that Hithium is more competitive in these areas than Samsung SDI.
According to publicly available information, in 2024, Hithium has already secured a large number of overseas orders:
640MWh Woolooga Order, Australia: In December 2024, Hithium announced that it would provide a 640MWh energy storage system for the Woolooga project developed by Lightsource bp in Australia and would collaborate with INTEC Energy Solutions to offer operation and maintenance services for the project.
25MW/55MWh Order, Bulgaria: In June 2024, the 25MW/55MWh energy storage project in Bulgaria officially went into operation. Hithium provided 16 units of the 3.44MWh HiTHIUM ∞Block liquid-cooled containerized energy storage systems, along with customized full-lifecycle services, including commissioning, delivery, operation and maintenance, and recycling.
5GWh Powin Order, USA: In January 2024, Hithium signed a 5GWh energy storage battery framework procurement agreement with U.S. energy storage system integrator Powin LLC. Over the next three years, Hithium will supply Powin with the specified storage capacity based on its self-developed energy storage batteries.
