CATL Power Change: The Target Layout of 10,000 Power Change Stations

At the World Power Battery Conference held on September 1, CATL revealed the layout of the construction of power stations, CATL plans to cover more than 30 cities in 2025, and the number of power stations exceed 500; By 2026, more than 70 cities will be covered, and the number of power stations will exceed 1,500; By 2027, the number of power stations will reach 3,000. The long-term goal is to build 10,000 power stations.

Such a target shows the rapid expansion strategy of CATL in the power exchange market, aiming to quickly occupy market share, especially in the case of NIO has occupied the first-mover advantage. As of the end of August 2024, the total number of power change stations laid out by NIO, the main power change mode, is 2,495. Of the power supply obtained by NIO users, nearly 60% comes from power change.

The technical characteristics and innovations of CATL in the field of power changing stations are mainly reflected in its latest powerr changing solutions, such as "chocolate power changing block" and "Qi Ji Power changing", respectively for the passenger car market and the heavy truck market. These technologies and schemes not only improve the efficiency and safety of power change, but also reduce the cost, providing users with a more convenient and economic power change experience.

At present, CATL has established a cooperative relationship with DiDi Global, GAC Aion, Beijing Automotive Group and other companies in the power change aspect to jointly promote the development and application of power change technology.

Not only that, in the product layout of electric replacement models, CATL as a core battery supplier has occupied most of the market share.

In the past three years, battery suppliers of electric models have been replaced

Since 2022, there have been a total of 1038 models of replacement models, of which 661 models of products are independently supported by CATL batteries, accounting for 64%, the second place in the number of separate supporting batteries is EVE Energy, the number of 68, the third place is Gotion, the number of 56. It is obvious that the CATL not only has obvious advantages in the number of power replacement products, but also has opened a very obvious gap with other battery companies.

Although the number of electric replacement models is increasing year by year, and the layout of electric replacement models is also growing, CATL still continues to maintain its advantage, but on an annual basis, the advantage of CATL is also weakening. In 2022, the number of new models replaced by CATL batteries accounted for 80%, which fell to 58% in 2023 and 50% this year, while more and more models chose Gotion, REPT, EVE Energy, BYD and other battery companies as the second supply.

For battery companies such as CATL, the layout of changing power stations is not actually the main business, but it can gradually establish a unified battery standard and adaptation system by carrying out the layout of changing power stations in the fierce competition in the battery market. Not only that, for the CATL, which has an advantage in battery matching, now through the layout of the power station, it can be further bound to the Oems and form a closer cooperative relationship.
